Vacation! (All I Ever Wanted!)...

I'm going on vacation!!!

food, wine, fun!

I don't get out much. And aside from that, The furthest down the coast I've been is South Carolina (which I absolutely love, and when I'm rich I'll have a winter home in Charleston). Sure, I'm lucky to have a sister in Virginia Beach, so I get to travel there every year with free room and board, and stay a mile from the beach, and I'm very thankful for that.

But guess what else I have? One of my longest friends that lives in Orlando, FL...and not only that...she WORKS FOR DISNEY!!! Cue the magic!

What have I been waiting for???

This October, I will fly to sunny Florida for the food and wine festival at Disney, where I will partake in foods, wine, music, girl time,  and the magic of DISNEY!! I'm not ashamed to say that at 38 I'm probably more excited about going to Disney than most kids are!

I get entrance to Disney...FOR FREE! We are getting a suite at the hotel for the wine festival...FOR FREE! I get to go to the Animal Kingdom...FOR FREE! (animals!!! eek!)  And guess what else? She's taking me on an hour road trip to Vero Beach so that I can experience the pretty side of Florida!

I mean, we even already have dinner reservations at an Epcot restaurant...it must be good!

I had a really hard time deciding to take this trip since my #1 goal this year has been saving money, and paying off my credit debt so that I can buy a house next year...but then I decided that I freaking deserve it, its cheaper than going to see my sister, and honestly... once I buy a house, I'll have even more reasons not to take a vacation.

Watch out, Florida...here I come!

Yes..I Hate Sports..But I've Made an Exception....

It's only a few days into the new year, and already I am well on my way for not only trying new things, but being spontaneous. The past couple of years I got so regimented, that I wouldn't stray from my plans, and in a sense, I got kind of boring.

Just on my birthday I had an invite to dinner before my get-together, and I just couldn't bring myself to go!

So, without my usual "week's notice rule" (I'm that annoying!)  I went cross country skiing with one of my bff's on a whim! I mean, we had a great snowfall (about 7") and I had a half day off of work to burn! Yes, it was freezing, but the sun was beautiful and it was such a great work out, once you get going, you keep pretty warm!

I have never had a better time outdoors! We laughed the entire time, from how ridiculous you look doing it, to how fun it was to catch a little speed!

Look at all of this untouched snow! It is just beautiful!

One of the best parts of the day was when I started zipping along thinking "this is just like the nordic track" and I was catching some speed.

Here I am, skiing along, pretty bad-ass!

And then here I am when I totally biffed it! On flat land.

Here I am signaling that I'm Ok...you notice my bff didn't come to help, but rather got pictures.

Later, while trying to turn around I got my two ski's overlapped, and boom! I biffed it again while standing. We were laughing so hard about the fact that I honestly could not untangle my ski's and figure out how to stand back up, that my bff fell down in laughter!

One of the trails we took. Stuff like this makes you see the beauty in the snow!!

The sun on the snow seems magical!

Snow covered trees!

The next day, despite my rigorous workouts, I found muscles that I didn't even know I had!

After skiing, we had hot toddies, (a first for me) and I tried sushi. Which I don't like. But I had an avocado roll, which I would totally have again! And saki...and I guess..who doesn't like saki? I didn't care for the fish smell of the joint, but I had fun nonetheless!

Now, we are buckeling down for a -40 wind chill here in NE Ohio. We get cold and snow, and the occasional subzero temp...but this is something none of us are use to!

Warm thoughts!

Post Birthday Post...

Another year older...although, aside from fighting wrinkles, I don't feel any older.

I had planned on a trip to a winery where you make your own wine, and come back for your 24 bottles after 5 weeks...you know, an intimate affair, where we have fun, get to be creative, and the payoff is booze.

But this year proved near impossible to nail down friends for attendance.

Having a mid-December birthday sometimes really sucks.

My coworkers got me this bad-ass hello kitty water dispenser for my desk, and FLOWERS!  I don't even have a boyfriend, and I got flowers, I was over the moon about these gifts!

For my official Birthday, my FOUR YEAR OLD car officially died, and I had to speed walk-it to my hair appointment! Luckily I'm only 2 miles from the salon. I mean, I'm sporting 3 month roots, and there were no appointments available until after New Years, so clearly, that was my only option!

Unluckily, I live in a bad part of town, so the walk home in the dark scared me. Luckily, my Momma and Brother came to take me home and jumped my car.. and turns out I only needed a battery!

Unluckily, the only battery for my car at the closest auto store was a gold version, at $130, happy birthday, me, you got a car battery!

My celebrations still happened, I had a handful of great gals still come over to ring in another year of birth, and I couldn't ask for more!

Plus, they got me booze, score!

We played heads up, and laughed our asses off at the video it records. (This is the first, and only app I have ever paid for, and it is totally worth the dollar!)

Snow "woman" 2013

After everyone left, my bff was staying the night, so we decided to go out and make a snowman. I don't remember the last time I laughed that much, and it's an awesome specimen.

Night Stand.

In other December news, my second attempt for a matching dresser didn't work either, the two they tried to deliver were too large to fit up my stupid staircase, and while my clothes are still homeless, doesn't my my night stand look nice?

Birthdays are what you make them. My plans didn't come to fruition, but I still got to hang out with some great ladies, and that is never a bad thing!

And, in closing, Mr. Magoo got a santa hat. And who doesn't love a dog in a santa hat?

No Place Like Home...

Home made chicken noodle soup

After a few days of being sick after my vacation, I'm back to life as I knew it. It feels good to be home.

I am in love with the cooler, "fall-like"  temps here in NE Ohio. As long as it stays sunny, I'm a fan.

Home for me is scary movies que'd up on my Netflix, my favorite snuggly blanket, and my long comfy pants at the ready. I mean seriously, I'm living the dream here!

I made the best chicken noodle soup in the world last weekend. I had fresh veggies from my Mom and Uncles gardens, whole wheat noodles, and my favorite rotisserie chicken from Acme.

I ate it for an entire week. It was so good, I decided that I needed to make another pot this weekend! Local sweet corn is almost gone for the season!! (insert sad face)

Aside from that exciting news, I helped one of my bff's move into her very own apartment after 7 years in a less than stellar relationship with someone I've probably said 10 words to in that entire span of time.

No love loss there, and I'm so super happy for her to learn what happiness is all about, outside of a relationship with someone you are just not meant to be with.

And soon, she will be able to enjoy the same peace and happiness in her own home.

Kicking off the Holiday Weekend...

I had an absolute blast at the Kid Rock concert! We scored a round trip cab for 35 bucks, which meant we got to drink before and during the concert!

Side note, the older you get, the worse of an idea it is to drink chardonnay, followed by beer.....

The bad part was the mile plus walk we had to get to the street, since due to traffic our cab wouldn't get inside to pick us up at any quick pace. Both me and one of my girlfriends fell victim to one of the many mud pits, and we both had to leave behind our sandals. Although she did think she saved hers from despair, only to find out later, she dug out one of hers, and one of mine.

Fail.

I feel kinda bad for our cabby who was sexually harassed by one of my girlfriends, even after we were dropped off...but that's the stuff memories are made of, and he won't forget us anytime soon.

The night ended like this.

I really miss my sandals, and cleaning my tub after all that mud the next day was not a fun task!

What fun holiday plans do you have in order?

Running the Shamrock...2013 Race Season Starts!...

This St. Patties day, I did not partake in any celebratory drinking. No green beer. No bar. Not a single glass of wine. But, it was all for good reason... I had a race to prepare for, and a medal to earn!

Instead, I spent my Saturday drinking water like it was my job, sticking to my "diet", and watching "Frankenweenie". (cute movie btw)

The course was described as "challenging, hilly, our hardest course". Normally, I like to stick to "easy" and "flat".

I was a bit worried about my performance, because I have been killing myself in the gym every day, and I usually like to take a few days off before a race. But I have a schedule, and I stuck to all my training.

And have I mentioned, I don't train on hills?

Plus this guy knew I could do it...

It was indeed, challenging. I had anticipated on a normal 9 miles, to finish in an hour and a half. This one, I thought, as long as I'm not over 2 hours, I'll feel great about it.

You don't understand this disclaimer, until after you run the course. But damn, it makes you feel good when you do!

The hills? They were massive. And never ending. The best surprise was at the bottom of the worst/longest 2 mile hill, (that was so wind-ey and steep you couldn't see an end, so I kept my eyes down) when my BFF came bounding out from the trees to run with me!!

She came to run the hardest part with me! If it weren't for her I'd have walked the whole thing and felt defeated. It was so full of awesome!

When she left me just past the crest, I had just 3 miles to go. And as we like to say...Anyone can run 3 miles!

Those miles that she assured me were "easy"? Were mostly hills as well. Just when you got to the top of a hill, you had a slightly smaller hill, until... another hill!

About a mile and a half later I saw a girl bringing me water at a water station, that I was going to pass...(I don't wear my glasses/contacts running) and it was her again!! Telling me to "kick its' ass!!"

Then, at the finish? She was there again to yell my name, and to tell me to pick it up and finish strong!

A good friend, might come to cheer you on, but a best friend will come and run "bandit" with you so that you don't give up!

And given that I have NEVER had any race support on any of my races, it meant the world to me!!

Did I mention it was a blustery 32 degrees, wet, and snowy?

In the end, I  finished at 1:45:27. A 11.19 minute mile. I can run a flat 15k in an hour and a half, so I expected to finish at 2 hours, due to the course. I outran my anticipated time, which is a win to me!!

Last season, I couldn't have done it. I would have finished far slower! I would have walked all the hills vs. at the very least, slow jogging 99% of them. All the extra training I have put in, is actually working

Whoda thunk?

Since I burned over 1,100 calories just from my run, and stayed away from alcohol, I treated myself to a non-24 day challenge treat of a chicken pot pie from my favorite grocery store. And I loved every.. last... tidbit!

So, what did you do this St. Patty's day?

Gunshots...Rang out Like a Bell! No! They Really Did!

Aside from witnessing some gun blasts in my street, it started like any other Saturday...

I got up with the birds, ate two scrambled eggs, and attended my usual core/abs class, followed by spinning, then as per usual, I headed right to Starbucks for my post-breakfast treat, which is a venti skinny carmel macchiato.

This time they made my drink iced. Eh, not OK. So they made my hot drink right away, and told me to take both of them with me, plus gave me a gift card for a free drink next time for the inconvenience.  I heart Starbucks' customer service! 48 ounces of caffeine in a matter of 2 hours???? Ziiiiing!

Then I headed out to celebrate the birth of one of my BFF's! Mexican, followed by a trillion laughs at the bar, so much so that I was crying, and my stomach hurt. I love girlfriends!

I made it home safely, threw on my PJ's, and was leisurly uploading my celebration pics to facebook..

Then..I heard what at first, I thought was fireworks, because I have never heard real gunfire! But my dog was trembling. And it sounded different. (for future reference, gunshots are pop pop, and fireworks are crack, crack...I've got it down to a science)

Not thinking, I ran to my front window, and witnessed two more gunshots, and saw the blast in the dark, as people scattered.

Um...I turned my lights off, tried to collect myself, and called the police.

I asked to remain anonymous as I have to live by these dickbags that shot their gun off 5 times, and then ran into the house right across from me. All I can say about my local police is that by the time I completed my call, they were 8 strong looking for bullets, and trying to get the guys to answer the door.

Nothing came of it that I saw. They didn't answer the door and about 20 minutes later they all left.

But the experience scared the shit out of me!

I was so worked up I was thankful that my BFF called me after I texted her at 2 am, and then I talked to my Mom for 2 hours (who tried to convince me that I needed to move in with her and find a new apartment the next day)

It's one thing to know that crime happens. But it is quite another to have some delinquents living across the street from you shooting off their gun. In retrospect, I should have maybe taken cover, and NOT gone to the window. I could have been hit by a stray bullet.

Especially since last night my Mom and brother came over, and pointed out that I have a bullet hole in my door frame, about 5 inches from my front window. It was really high up so I didn't see it.

Did I call the police back? Hell no! Of course, if someone were shot I'd get involved, but I gotta live here, and this girl ain't gonna be pegged no snitch, and be shot in my sleep, or have my car vandalized.

What is this world coming to?

Cupid's Undie Run..CLEVELAND!

Let's face it, runners are awesome. We like to do something, and we get to raise money doing it! We over doubled the $50,000 goal for our city to benefit children's tumor research. Go, Cleveland!

We made the news!

I've done a lot of runs, some serious, some fun. And this one was really well organized. There were a ton of photographers, plenty of staff to answer questions, easy bag drops/pick up, free parking, pre and post race party in a heated tent, and, of course, lots of alcohol available to get you nice and "warm" before running in 28 degree weather in your skiivies!

Best race swag ever! T-shirt, bag and goodies came with registration, skiivies were for hitting a fund raising goal.

The best part about only running one "mile-ish" is we did it in 8 minutes. My long runs are at about 11 minute miles. So, not only did I have a blast, help kids, and spend a fun day with my friends, I got to say I ran an 8 minute mile!

If this race comes to your city GO! It is so much fun! The people that gathered on the streets to cheer us on were the best! We were like a mobile running party, everyone was having a great time, and I only wish it were longer. Except, my legs were numb at the end of the run...so it wouldn't be a good idea!

Of course, our hilight was the firemen in their firemen underwear, and firemen hats, running with their fire hose. You gotta love a man in uniform...even if they are out of it.

And, I won't lie, you can't be packed in a group of 800+ people without checking out all the guys' packages in their underwear. It made me giggle like a school girl!

It's all for a good cause! Anyone can run (or walk) a mile...so, do it!

The Walking Dead...LIVE for Valentine's!!

I was pretty bummed when one of my BFF's landed a ticket to see The Walking Dead Live from a group of people where one of the participants backed out. She likes the show...but she doesn't LOVE the show like some of us!

Then, days later, she started blowing up my celly while I was working. I kept ignoring it, thinking "some of us are at work".  After the third call, I answered it, dreading some horrible news.....but it wasn't..the group had another back-out...there was a ticket...

FOR ME!

While Norman Reedus (Daryl) did not appear as scheduled, and we were stuck with my LEAST favorite character (Andrea) in his place, it was still super awesome to watch a reel with a theater of fans, and cheer and boo at the good parts!

Oh yes, and to see the cast, and hear their insight on their characters.

L-R Cleveland's own Alan Cox, special effects Greg Nicotero, "Maggie", "Andrea", and "Merle".

We were 3 rows from the last seat in the house, but the tix were FREE and I loved my Valentine's day!

Look at the dead fans!!

The best tidbit I learned was that Andrea will redeem herself for ditching Michonne, and banging the governer in upcoming episodes. Good thing, because the crowd hated her!

Underwear + Chilling Temperatures=Charity!

My first "official" run of the season isn't until the Shamrock 15k in March, but what better way to have a good time, than a winter undie run?

It's been in the single digits, with negative teen wind chills here in Northeast Ohio this past week.

But still, I'm going to be doing the Cupid's Undie Run Valentine's weekend in Cleveland. It doesn't really qualify as a race, because it is just a mile, but according to this video, it is going to be a blast!

I've already raised some money, and hit the "free underwear" mark.

Any time you can get out and be active with friends is a good time!

Any of my local peeps going to run? I'm sure the after parties will be a blast!

Dating... Advice?

Dating. Not my top priority these days, but it's still in the back of my mind.

I don't feel like I'm missing out, I mean, I havn't been on a real date (with someone I havn't already dated before....ahem...) in a long while.

I've said a billion times I'm at the point where if you don't knock my socks off, keep it moving. I'm living my life just fine, thank you!

Being only one of two single girls in my social circle, I get a lot of advice as to why I'm "still single". (like it's the plague)

Here are just a few samplings of unsolicited advice I've gotten...

Apparently, I can't go shopping without getting done up. I never know where I will meet someone. So I guess it's unacceptable to go to the store after the gym. I should rush home, shower, spend an hour on make up and hair, (after already doing so for work in the morning) and THEN go get my wine...I mean, food, or kitty litter, or...whatever.

Aren't there any guys at your gym? I should frequent the weight room, ask a guy to help me.

Do you always wear that ring? Apparently, guys are dumb, it doesn't matter if I wear my beautiful antique inspired, self-bought diamond ring on my right hand, they probably still think I'm engaged.

I  need to hang out at Barnes and Noble, there are ALWAYS guys there.

I need to order food at a restaurant by myself and sit at the bar. Someone will pick me up.

I need to flirt more.

I should strike up a conversation with someone I think is cute! I need to practice!

I shouldn't meet someone online!

I should meet someone online!

I need to stop hanging out at the gay bar, how will I ever find a man that way?

I need to get out more often.

I should join a social group. (what is a social group?)

Buy this dress for a date!!! (that I don't have) It will inspire me to be more open to dating because I already have an outfit.

I can't expect a guy to always make the first move I need to go for what I want!

I should be more outgoing, guys love confident girls!

I should meet a rich guy, he will take care of me!

What ridiculous advice have you gotten? Or am I the only single girl left in the world?

Rockin 37...

I played this about 10 times while dancing around with my girlfriends...I'm totally an adult!

Well, helloooooo, 37!!! No longer in my early or mid-thirties, I'm hanging out on the "late side". But, as I tell my younger friends, life gets so much better with age! I wouldn't trade a number for how much more I get to know myself with each day, it's (maybe) worth the wrinkles I'm starting to get. (but I'm not above botox in the next couple of years....)

Alot was great about this birthday.

I renewed my license. And for the first time since I was 21, I gave my ACTUAL weight!! I also finally got a new picture to match the new me! I was so super excited about this accomplishment, it made all the sacrifices and trips to the gym so worth it.

The next day I had my girlfriends over to my casa for wine, cheese, and a hell of a good time! Not only did everyone bring their favorite bottles to share, but I got a pretty sweet private stock for my bar! I also got some other gifts, including, but not limited to, a hello kitty gingerbread house kit, and a fancy bedazzled wine glass that holds almost a full bottle. (my friends know me so well!)

I bought a bottle of the first wine that I had on my first date with exmanfriend. Because I loved it. And I wanted to associate it with a new memory. Best decision ever. We laid to rest a painful memory, and made a new one, complete with a positive toast!

I was so excited, and grateful that my girlfriends could all make it. Being a December baby means contending with holiday parties, and family, but my best friends always make time for me, and I feel truely blessed for that!

We spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to take group photos. Setting up the auto picture, after long deliberation about poses, was a billion laughs. There were mostly shots of my back running for my position in the picture. We got a couple good ones out of the 20 we took.

The night progressed with dancing at my favorite gay bar. We danced and sang to "Like a Prayer" like it was our jobs, which I later professed was just as fun as seeing my idol sing it live last month!

The moral of the story is, you are only as old as you feel. And I feel pretty damned good!  It's all about embracing your life, doing what you love, and above all else....laughter! That is what keeps you young!

And maybe wine helps. I think the alchohol content pickles you from the inside, and helps with keeping you look amazing...but what do I know?

Even Mr. Magoo was caught hitting the bottle...

Way Up North...

Imagine the horror...traveling 6 1/2 hours, and the last few miles are all dirt roads. I was cut off from the world! No cell phone! No internet! No facebook!!!

Dirt road...cell phones? No can do!

Woods...

I made a zen rock stack at Lake Michigan...I love this pic!

I had a great mini vacation with my girlfriend! We stayed with her Momma deep in the north woods. Where the only roads for miles are dirt ones...and they have more snowmobile roads than car roads. It was peaceful, and fun, and fabulous! She fed us so much that I think it'll take 2 weeks to work off all the food!

We had a ton of laughs, and I'm lucky to have a friend I enjoy the company of for so long! Great road trip!

Our flip flops are in the tree...

We visited the shoe tree...it was a great attraction. We threw our flip flops up there, and wrote our names and the date....

I had to have this sign to hang on my wall, because when I read it...it made me cry. To me, it's just what a girl wants! My girlfriends mom said "honey, no one is ever going to read all that". But I know what it says, and I love it!

We played games, learned great recipes, sat by the fire, watched the birds and squirrels on the deck, shopped, watched the walking dead (yes! her Mom loves it too!!) and a scarey movie, laughed so much, and most of all, had a great time!

Road Trip!

I am still...5 days later, riding my Madonna high. (see below...) I still can't sleep, I'm so wound up over the event... I wonder how long it will last?  I can't stop pouring over pictures, watching videos on youtube, and squealing with delight...

But! Bright and early, I'm off on a road trip with my BFF for the weekend! We are going to visit her Mom in Michigan. I have never been to Michigan...unless you count the two times I stopped for gas in Detroit on my way to Canada for work.

I have vowed not to judge Michigan by those harrowing stops. I don't think Detroit counts, it just isn't fair to judge a book by it's sweaty armpit of a city.

And, I havn't been on a "friend only" vacation since I was 19!

I dunno how Moms of human kids ever leave them. Because my only apprehensions about a weekend away with my bestie, is leaving poor Mr. Magoo at his gramma's house. She and my brother will take good care of him, but you know, he is a puppy mill rescue, and has only bonded to me.

The cats will stay home, and I have a friend checking in over the weekend. Much as I love the cats, they have each other, and they'll be fine.

"Do these cats make my butt look big?"

I do however, look forward to the hours of girl talk on the drive up and down. The box of wine I packed, along with a compilation of awesome music I spent hours putting together!

And...the possibility that the trip could turn slightly "Thelma and Louise". Not that we'd kill anyone or run from the police. Mostly, the running into Brad Pitt and taking him to a hotel part.

Watch out, Michigan!!!

Week-ending...

I've been a bit under the weather. I am not yet sure if it is the change of seasons, or the fact that I am juicing. I read that you usually get sick when all the toxins leave your body, but then I'm not really doing a strictly juice diet, so who knows. Either way, it sucks!

I watched so many netflix movies, that I am really down to the nitty gritty. But I dunno what I'd do without it. I also rented Hunger Games.  One of the few books I read made to movie. It of course, wasn't as detailed as the book, and my only complaint is the movie didn't explain why they actually did the hunger games.

Despite being sick, I did manage to get out and enjoy the annual tradition of the Yankee Peddlar Festival with one of my best friends. We had amazing fall-like weather, which allowed for jeans, t-shirts, and sandals without freezing or sweating to death! I heart fall temperatures!!

Last year we discovered they served booze, and we think this year they got hip to it, because they no longer allow you to buy cold 6 packs to go...so we just had a few draft Berry Weiss beers, and called it a day. Having beer at a craft festival makes you very popular. Everyone asks you where you got it.

I think next year we should learn how to be spokeswomen for Leinenkugel. We drum up a lot of sales for them!
Not only did we have a couple beers, but as you can only get the best foods but once a year, I also indulged in my usual turkey reuben sandwich. I think I heard angels sing with each bite of this heavenly treat. It was, aside from my morning and evening juice, my only meal of the day. It wasn't even out of calorie conservation, I was full from it the entire afternoon/evening!! Worth every single calorie though!!

The only other event of the single gal weekend was my Mr. Magoodle-bug got his hairs cut off. He looks like a totally different dog when he gets groomed! He's so tiny!

Mr. Magoo with his cat brother Pickachu on Friday, hiding from the treacharous thunderstorm together!

Mr. Magoo after the groomer on Saturday. Totally different dog!

Surely, you had a more exciting weekend?

Wine Makes Festivals Better!!

Who loves to pretend she is a classy drunk and have wine all the time?

ME!!!!

Guess who won tickets to the Cleveland Wine festival courtesy of Cleshopaholic over at Things I Luuuuurve?

ME!!!!!

I heart contests, and winning, and....wine! The tri-fecta!

Luckily I still have a single friend left in the world who was able to be my date for the event on short notice! Even if she wouldn't even let me FB any pics we took together, let alone, posting them on my blog. Jerk!

It was an absolutely perfect day weather-wise, not too hot, sunny, and fabulous!!

You can pretend it's not Lake Erie, when the sunlight dances off the water.

Hi Cleveland waterfront, we have arrived!!

This is totally an advertisement for drinking wine...notice my hair blowing in the wind...Yea...I'm drunk..

The band was Lloyd Dobbler Effect (who doesn't love Lloyd Dobbler?) And their "stage man" (who was like....10)  was the only guy I met all day...he gave us several CD's and posters. He was super happy to have his pic taken with us stage-side, can you tell?

I on the other hand, was so completely  amused at this moment.

We each got 10 free tastings....plus the extras people randomly gave us..plus the times we got tastings without tickets...plus the 20 more my date bought because I paid for parking...if she were a boy I'd totally marry her.

Tastings quickly add up. Especially when you add in the two FULL size free beers I had at the beer garden!! Lunch and dinner drinking is pretty dangerous without actual lunch or dinner!!

Who is wine drunk before 8:30? Ok, me, and everyone else at the festival.

Aside from all the delicious wine tastings, laughing, and random conversations with drunk people..I finally got to meet live, and in techno color, the amazing  Alexa over at Cleveland's a Plum  after allllll these years  in the blogosphere! That was totally unexpected! Hi Alexa!

Me again, all alone! I'm so totally drunk at this point. I loved the wine festival!!

The ride home was made up of car singing and dancing. Including, but not limited to, Melissa Gorga's "On Display" from the Real Housewives of NJ.Cheesy? Yes, but then we belted out the chorus together at full volume.

This led to pulling into our neighborhood gay bar for some full body dancing to top off the night. (old person alert...there are not many people in the club at 9pm, but you get your requests played straightaway)

The day after? No hangover, let's be honest, I am no stranger to large amounts of vino. But my body was certainly tired. I may run 5-9 miles in a day....but it has got nothing on tripping the light fantastic on no food, and I was beat! I was at McDonald's at 7 am for the best post drinking breakfast in the world...a large coke, and sausage biscuit.

I got out of my PJ's long enough to take the dog to sniff dog butts at the dog park. Then...more laying around.

Me and Mr. Magoo ended the night with some forbidden chinese takeout. I had the vegetable lo mein, and he had a menu.

mmmm chinese menu!!

Girl Talk...

Cats love the sun.

This weekend, I went with one of my BFF's to a local pool/waterslide park. We had so much fun! I screamed with enjoyment every time I went down the waterslide chute on my innertube, I felt like a kid again!

While slowly meandering around the "lazy river"  on our double innertube...which was just a circle of water that you are propelled around and around, we had two very in-depth conversations..

One about male body hair, and why men that have an entire back full of hair would not shave or wax. Especially...when they have a willing significant other to do so for them! Meanwhile, they expect us women to be completely shaved...uh...double standard?

Wake up call boys, we don't enjoy your body hair any more than you would enjoy ours!

And two, about how you would hide a body if you killed someone. My girlfriend said to bury them, to which I cited animals digging up the body, or someone building on the burial site one day...the bones could still be found decades later.

Since I watch too much TV...I said the only way is to incinerate the body...(clearly I win....)

Disclaimer, neither of us is in the market for hiding a body, but it proved a very interesting conversation nonetheless! We really put a lot of thought into this before our final two decisions.

In the end, after 5 hours in the sun, swimming, and watersliding, I was quickly reminded that in fact..I am no longer a kid, because I needed a nap when I got home.

And some vinegar and aloe for my sunburn.

Our Cleveland 2012 Marathon Finish Photo...

A lot of people probably accomplish their first 13.1 miles, but I got to do mine with my BFF since my pre-teens. I can't express what an amazing feeling this was. We've been through everything together, and this is just another stepping stone!! It meant so much to me!

We got a ton of decent pictures crossing the finish, but this most depicts how happy I was that it was over!

Obligatory Half Marathon Recap...

I did it! I ran a half marathon! Not very fast, but I did it!! It was super hot, the heat index hit 100, and there was very little shade. I'm suprised I didn't die.

Allllll these names on the wall also did it with me. It was a record number of participants, over 20,000 people.

I didn't sleep the night before. Unless you count the hours from 11-2am. I layed in bed until about 4 am and decided to get up, and eat my whole wheat skinny bread, and too-ripe-for-me banana, and get in some extra hydration. It was going to be a scorcher. 85 degrees and sunny. I don't run outdoors in the heat. I was scared.

Who knew there were pretty views in cleveland? This was on a steep hill when we were going s-l-o-w!

Upon arrival at the race site...the toilet situation left much to be desired.  The wait was so long, we finally had to squat behind a not-so-private pine tree at the start line! It's a good thing we have no shame! When you gotta go, you gotta go!

I did not run this alone, I ran with one of my oldest friends, and only running partner, who has run plenty of halfs, but agreed to stick with me thru the race so I could get my first one under my belt. She was a good coach along the way! Telling me when to drink, and making me take inventory of how I felt, and asking if I needed to slow down.

Mile 1-3, I kept telling my girlfriend..."we're doing this!!!!!!" I was so excited!!

The first 8 miles was pretty easy. FLEW by! It was hot and miserable, but my body felt good. The sun was blazing, and it was kind of miserable.

After passing the 8 mile marker, my bff told me we only had 1 hand's worth of miles to go. (5) and that made me smile. "I run that every day" I said.
Some time along the course, we had about a half mile of street that was slanted, and that threw off my gaite, and started to make my foot hurt. But I soldiered on!

Mile 9 I was so excited to see the APL there with the doggies! It was downhill, but what goes down, must come up. By this point, my ass muscles hurt so bad we walked up the hill and stopped mid way to stretch. This is about when everyone started to walk the hill.
I started to feel pretty awful about this time.

At first, I was not a fan of getting wet to stay cool. But there were so many supportive people along the way with hoses, buckets and pitchers of water to throw on you if you wanted, and kids with squirt guns who probably had the time of their lives dousing us with water. The water stations hooked up to the hydrants and had those going for you to run through too. I did partake in the water after a while. It gave you that childlike spurt of energy, "weeeeeeeeee"!!!

Mile 10, everything hurt. My feet, my ankles, my shoulders, my butt, my calves. This is about the time some of the spectators were blaring "eye of the tiger" so we tried out our best "boxer moves" and laughed thru the pain for a bit.

Ohio City bridge was hard. All I kept hearing was after this bridge we are home free. But the bridge was long, and hot, and mostly uphill, with no crowd support. It was brutal! I had to walk the whole thing. This threw off our time, but my ultimate goal was to finish, uninjured, so I had to. The good thing about walking is meeting people on the course!

Only 3 more miles. I think I was dilerious. But being goofy was all I had. I kept repeating....only three more miles!! Even after the 11 mile marker, and my bff told me "NO! ONLY TWO MORE!!" Yessss!!! "Anyone can run 2 miles!!"

Being so close, yet so far was the hardest thing to deal with. It hurt so bad to run, but hurt even more to walk, and by that point I was singing Dories song "just keep swimming". Every step hurt. I think I said "fuck" with every strike of my foot, or "sweet jesus" I don't remember. Honestly, if it weren't for my girlfriend, I'd have walked the entire last 3 miles. I had never been in that much pain. She's a good friend, and she kept my eye on the prize!

Some time past mile 12, almost to the finish, I had a wave of emotion when I heard the finish line crowd cheering from a distance. I held back tears. Then we saw my girlfriends running team on the sideline, cheering us the loudest we had heard the whole time. It was awesome!

"We're almost there, just around the corner, we only have a little bit to go, you got this, you can do it, look at that guy he's running the full marathon barefoot, if he can do that we can finish this!!". All words from my friend that kept my feet moving.

We decided when we started that we would cross the finish holding hands.

We rounded the last curve, my girlfriend said "there it is, the finish line, let's do this!" So I mustered up the last tenth of an ounce of energy I had and pushed forward. We grabbed hands, and crossed that finish the same way we started....together!

I immediately started to dry heave from my last bit of over-exertion but not until after collecting my prized medal!

Yea, the guitar spins, it's pretty awesome!!

We finished at 2:55, at a 13:25 minute mile pace. I wanted to just finish, but secretly, I wanted to finish under 3 hours. Walking some parts threw off our normal 10m pace, but I'll take it. I still met a goal!  Plus, I've never even run 13 miles!
I had to sit in the shade and not move right after. My feet were pissed at me. There was no way I could walk another step. My friend left to find her husband, and I hydrated, and ate pretzels. And played with my spinny guitar medal. And smiled, because I was able to finish the half!
Isn't Brown's Stadium pretty? I don't love foosball, and I'll never be here again but we got to use their toilets so I took a picture.

I don't get out much, so I took this "rainman" picture from the ride home of our brand new, and first Cleveland casino!

And..there she is. My beautiful pink 13.1 magnet proudly displayed on the fusion! I love it!
