Traditions...The Secret to Happily Ever After...

Recently, a coworker told me that at her wedding rehearsal they told her to sit it out, and let the rest of the wedding party go through the motions. It's bad luck to practice your wedding.

What???!! This was the dumbest thing I'd ever heard. Everyone practices...right?

I made it my mission to ask every happily married person if they had a wedding rehearsal.

This past weekend alone, I had the prime opportunity, at my Aunt and Uncles 50th anniversary party.

I asked 7 couples married from 30-50 years, if they had a rehearsal.

They either did not have a rehearsal, or eloped.

On the other hand, everyone I know is divorced, or still newly married.

I want to know as many peoples experiences as I can....are you happily married? Did you rehearse? Are you divorced? We may be on to something here....

No rehearsal here. But we got married after we ran the Tram Road Race together, and it would have been weird to rehearse. We've been married 13 years in October.

I hope that's not true, because my son and his lovely wife had a rehearsal.

J and I had a rehearsal (required by church, but we would have had it anyway - it helps calm the nerves ;-) We will be celebrating our 5 year anniversary this Oct. Pretty sure we still fall into the "kinda-still-newly-married" category.

I have more divorced friends than I ever thought I would have at my age, but I also have a number of newly married friends. Some that I know will last, and others... well...

I had a half-hearted rehearsal... and a divorce.

My rehearsal actually ended with one of my ex's best men being denied entry into a cab... so he threw empty beer bottles at the cab. The best man was a cop. Sigh.

Shoulda known.

Gord and I got married at city hall with just his son and my sister present ... no need to practice :)

you hear weird things over the years....i was hoping to pin-point the divorce rate with superstition....I guess it's not that easy!!

We didn't have a rehearsal -- but we did elope! :P And we also just eloped in April, so I don't think I'm an accurate case for your little study here ;) LOL

But we are happily married and to us it wasn't so much about that day as it was about being married. Meaning, the wedding = not that important; the marriage = the important stuff.

So maybe that's the real question -- if you make a "big deal" out of your wedding, are you more likely to get divorced because it's more about the day than the marriage?? Hmm. Now you've got ME thinking! LOL

so agreed! most of us dont realize that til the first go round, it is such a waste of money when its all over with. next time, i'm eloping to the beach, and having a kick ass party when we come back! start asking people who have been married and divorced, I ask everyone, its quite coincidental!
